END of MISSION Executive Review
Dec. 2011 – Feb. 2012
Another time in Viet Nam came to an end. This is our EXECUTIVE review:
Christmas Parties:
- For 144 children plus staff at the Hope School for Hearing Impaired Children in Binh Thanh district;
- For 64 children plus staff at the Peace Village, TU DU Hospital in district 1.
Cancer patient Ngoc Hong:
Visit Ngoc Hong at the cancer hospital in Binh Thanh district on Christmas day.
Handed over one thousand dollars to the parents of Ngoc Hong, at her home in Ba Ton, Mekong delta to pay for all the additional medical bills that were not covered by the health insurance.
Ngoc Hong is a lot better now, her hair is finally growing back and she only needs to go to Sai Gon once a month now.
Bicycles for My Trung:
Organised and delivered nineteen bicycles and one desk for the kids we already give educational support in My Trung.
Hope School for Hearing Impaired Children:
Bought two additional laptops and one LCD TV screen for the Hope School. The Sai Gon Children Charity is donating five TV screens. All in all they now have eight classrooms equipped with TV screen and laptop for interactive teaching.
We established a MEDICAL TRUST FUND at the Hope School. This fund is only to be used for medical cases and only after consulting us. There are at least three cases where medical assistance will be required in the near future.
The MEDICAL TRUST FUND guarantees quick access to funds when needed.
Second hand baby clothes:
We handed about 16kg of baby clothes to Bao and Claude for the pregnant women shelter.
Educational support in district 8:
In August / September we visited a poor area in district 8 where our friends Hoan and Lien are voluntary teachers for up to 12 children. Due to various circumstances Hoan is unable to continue teaching.
When Hoan told us about it, we immediately stepped in and wanted to support those children. Hoan met with the parents to discuss our proposal. We were not sure how the parents would react, as most of the children are already working, earning money to help the family.
We are now in the process of supporting these children with school fees, books, uniforms and meals at school. But it is not as easy as one would think. The children cannot enrol at school because they do not have a birth certificate. Hoan got in touch with the leader of the community and he is now helping to get birth certificates for the kids.
So far we have agreements for nine children, which is great. The kids can start school on the 15th of August this year.
TET handout for disadvantaged people (Lunar New Year):
Gave TET handout to 50 people in Tu Duc district, organised by the local authorities, and to 20 people of the Eden Church. Each package contained:
10 kg of rice,
1 carton of instant noodles,
2 litres of cooking oil,
1 pound of sugar,
1 packet of MSG, plus
100.000 VND ~ $5 cash.
Handed VND 2.000.000 to two ladies of Eden Church congregation, one is pregnant and her partner has left her, no support. The other lady’s daughter had leukaemia at the age of four.
Second hand mobile phones and laptops:
We gave one mobile phone to Ngoc Hong's mother and left two mobiles with Father Duong. Our last mobile we gave to Claude and Bao.
The Hope school received a second hand laptop for the students.
Please keep the mobile phones coming ... so many people cannot afford to buy a mobile phone!!!
All in all it was a very fruitful mission, we can't wait to go back and continue to support the underprivileged again.
