A WONDERFUL MESSAG WE RECEIVED THIS MORNING ...

Hi Matt,

We had a wonderful time on Saturday. On looking at the photos we are sorry that we had to leave early - the bonfire looked brilliant! Thank you so much for hosting such an event. I'm sure it was a lot of work for you and Uli. James is still raving about the cake (which he so tactfully told my sister was better then her birthday cake that evening!). You have a talent with photos. They are lovely.

Thanks Julie!!!

We had to hurry to save 2 pieces for Doug and Silvia!!!

From little things big things grow ...

To start with another song title this time by Paul Kelley

This is just a message of JOY!!! Last year we sponsored 20 children in the Mekong delta. Today we found 10 individual sponsors!!! This is just wonderful!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!

We know what we are,
but know not what we may be.

the thoughts, the hopes,
the dreams, the pleasures.

German Luncheon at Phil and Fran's

Fundraiser Luncheon to support underprivileged children in Vietnam

On Saturday, the Coolum Vietnam Support Group held their traditional German Luncheon. People came as far as Wurtulla to have the culinary experience created by Coolum “Master chef” Uli. We had was a wonderful day, a truly finger licking experience, first the German sausages, then Leberkaes (German meat loaf) followed by loin ribs with Sauerkraut. People were queuing … and came back for seconds. But the main attraction was our dessert, a slab of Black Forest Cake … freshly made on the day by the Swiss Bakery in Marcoola. It was out of this world … Markus always excels!!! We had about 55 adults and 13 children … a beautiful mix of people from all walks of live.

The reason for this feast was simply to raise funds for disabled and underprivileged children in Saigon and the Mekong delta. Members of the Coolum Vietnam Support Group go to Vietnam in August for six weeks.

On Saturday we found four new individual sponsors who signed up for educational support for a child for one year. That is a great result, but we still got eleven children … WAITING for a sponsor!!!

Educational sponsorship is only $125 a year, which is less than $ 0.35 a day!!! That is truly affordable, we think. It is lot less than what the big charity organisations charge. CVSG does not have any admin costs or overheads. Members pay there own way.

CVSG have a web site, a blog and are on face book. Here is how you can find us:

Sausage sizzle at Officeworks ...

Everything is EASY ... until you have to do it!!!

Lots of preparations, organising a crew, cutting the onions, ordering the meat, buying soft drinks, sauces, bread ... Anyway, the sun was shining in Coolum, when we arrived at Officeworks it was pretty windy and it more or less blew all day.

Setting up, gazebo and BBQ ... tables, drinks, Helens home made goodies ... then Spence tried to get the barbie going. No luck ... We figured that the GAS bottle was empty. To cut a long story short ... Spence went and got the bottle exchanged, then we were coocking with Gas ... later on with oil ... but that is another story.

We had a wonderful crew ... 13 people alltogether ... Tom was on sizzling duty when we were coocking without gas ... fat was dripping on one of the burners ... and we had a nice little fire going. Tom had it all under control. Got the burnign tray out and we used one of Tillys towels to stop the fire.
Later Frank was our BBQ Master chef ... all went well and we made nearly $900 on the day. A big "Thank You" to all the volunteers, we very much appreciate your help!!!
