Mekong delta, Ba Ton students

14th September 2014

After an early morning start we arrived at Kinh Gay at around 10:30 am. We had to cross the river by boat. A song by Chirs De Bourg springs to mind:
"Don't pay the ferryman, don't even fix a price, don't pay the ferryman,
until he gets you to the other side;"

Crossing Mekong river at Kinh Gay
The students from Ba Ton were with us on the boat.

After a very friendly welcome we started interviewing all the students from Ba Ton, who were on the road for over an hour to get to King Gay. Before we started giving away the laptops to TOP performers we asked if all the laptops are still in good working order. YES they are !!! Wonderful.

We asked all sort of questions, Mark was very good at it.
We had all their school records and asked some of them why their average was so low compared to others ... asking uncomfortable questions. On the other hand some students perform 9.5 out of 10 year after year.
Good results of Trung Truc Dang got him a pre-loved laptop.

We asked all sorts of questions so we can update our profiles. Each interview took between 5 and 8 minutes.
Tra had again an average over 9.5. He received a lap top last year.
Mark asked Tra questions in Vietnamese and Tra replied in very good English. He has 10/10 in English, as it is his favorite subject. Tra's family .... circumstances are very difficult. His father past away and his mum is visually impaired. Tra has to help his mum around the house. Tra also thanked us for the extra support he received last year from CVSG and from his sponsor. It made a lot of difference in their lives.
Another successful student ...
Another success story, Quang Nhi Nguyen has finished High school and will start learning business English at a college in Sai Gon. He will live with his aunt. CVSG will pay his HOC fees / Hex fees and a study allowance depending on circumstances.
Now it was time to say "tam biet" ... bye bye ... students had to go back to school Saturday afternoon.
Taking a group photo and then it was off to school again ... Bye bye till next year. Study hard so you can be successful and may be you will receive a pre-loved laptop next year.
