Visiting our HOAN in her home town

The second of September is independence day in Viet Nam. It is a national holiday observed on September 2, commemorating the Vietnam Declaration of Independence from France on September 2nd, 1945.
Saturday was a quiet day here as a lot of people went to their home town for the long weekend, Monday was also a public holiday as the holiday fell on a Saturday.

Hoan on her motor bike ...in the big smoke

Like everyone else, Hoan went home, four hours by motorbike on a normal day, but long weekend traffic took a bit longer.
Anyway, we were invited to come and visit her family for some years now. To cut a long story short, we got picked up at hotel by a mini bus and dropped off at Hoan's house three hours later.

The family embraced us with open arms and were so happy to meet us for the first time. We had a great time, met dad and her sister and her family and also Hoan's little niece.

On the Honda to visit Van's rice distribution / storage

Farmers dry their rice on the road ... still with the husks
When it is dry they put it into big rice bags
On the HONDA and off to the storage shed
Now we took a look at Hoan's parents farm. They grow rice. The climate allows them to grow three crops of rice in a calendar year. There is no "DOWN" time or winter to take a breather ...it's full on. And there are also plenty of animals to look after and feed.

... and the little one's

Here are the little chucks ... the big ones roam the yard and garden.
